Can you get in trouble for lying tho the police on the where abouts of a person with a warrent?

I know someone that has a warrent out for missing a court date for a traffic ticket and they came to my house the other day asking me questions I admit I beat around the bush a bit, now the police are sitting outside my house for the last 2 hours bothering my family asking questions and said there not going to leave cause they know he is in the house, but what if he is and we say he is not? Are you suppose to bust out a great friend especially if it wasn't for anything that serious?
