Bichon Frise, Maltese, or a mix?

Purebreds are great, but mixed breeds usually have less behavioral problems and less physical ones as well. With your love of animals I wouldn't limit yourself to a specific breed, keep your options open. There are a lot of fantastic dogs out there.
