Have you ever tried to be nice to someone and they ended up being rude to you?

So yesterday, my brother got his left ear pierced. Then today, he was like last night, he only slept on his right side since he didn't want to risk injuring his newly pierced ear. So then I was like you don't really need to worry about it because when I got both of my ears pierced, I had no choice but to sleep on my ear piercing since it was impossible to avoid doing so when both of my ears were pierced. Then he was like he doesn't care what I did in a rude way. I'm just wondering, did he misinterpret my intention or what since it was quite clear that I was trying to give him some advice based on my personal experience instead of insulting him.
