Do all Jetted Tubs need filters?

I just got a jetted tub installed yesterday. It is a MAAX Villa. I have used it 3 times and there is brown yucky stuff coming out already. I thought maybe it needed a new filter so I pulled the cover off and there is no filter in there. Don't all jetted tubs use a filter of some kind?
